From April 22 to 24, 2026, the Regional Ecological Summit 2026 will be held in Astana, organized by the government of Kazakhstan in collaboration with international and regional partners.
Under the slogan "A Shared Vision for a Sustainable Future," the summit will bring together leading global and regional experts, representatives of international organizations, and government officials. Over the course of three days, participants will engage in high-level plenary sessions and more than 20 thematic sessions dedicated to various aspects of ecology.
One of the key speakers is expected to be the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The presidents of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Armenia, and Mongolia—Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Emomali Rahmon, Vaagn Khachatryan, and Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, respectively—will also attend the event.
Among the invited guests will be notable representatives of international organizations, such as UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Liu Zhenmin, OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WMO Secretary-General Petteri Taalas, and ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin.
The organizers emphasize that the summit will serve as an important platform for discussing environmental and climate risks affecting the economic stability and security of the population in Central Asia. Key issues for discussion will include water scarcity, glacier melting, land degradation, and loss of biodiversity.
Additionally, participants will discuss ways to strengthen regional cooperation, attract funding for climate initiatives, and enhance the resilience of energy, water, and food systems.
The summit program covers eight key areas, including the transition to a green economy, natural resource management, ensuring water and food security, as well as the use of technology and education to create a sustainable future.
According to the organizers, this Regional Ecological Summit could become a permanent platform for strategic dialogue and coordination of efforts among countries in the region in the fields of ecology, sustainable development, and climate change.
