As reported by the press service of the Cabinet on March 29, Kasymaliev emphasized in his speech that the country's water resources are ideally suited for amateur and sport fishing. He noted that the fishery sector of Kyrgyzstan is actively developing and "fully meets domestic needs."
In addition, he highlighted the country's achievements in fish product exports. According to him, the Department of Fisheries, in collaboration with scientists, is actively working with fishermen and hunters. An electronic ticket issuance system has also been implemented through Agro-Smart.
Kasymaliev added that Kyrgyz fishermen have begun to show good results on the international stage. For instance, the Kyrgyz national team in the "Feeder" discipline took 20th place at the 2024 World Championship in Spain.
"In April 2026, the 15th World Championship will be held in Italy. The International Federation of Freshwater Fishing consists of 70 countries, and the Kyrgyz national team is actively preparing for these competitions," he reported.
"When it comes to fishing, one inevitably recalls the works of Ernest Hemingway, such as 'The Old Man and the Sea,' and Chyngyz Aitmatov with his 'The Gray Dog Running Along the Shore of the Sea.' In my childhood, like many boys, I enjoyed fishing, and trips to the lake were always a real celebration for me. The anticipation of a bite, patience, and the joy of the catch are unique sensations. As mentioned in these works, nature often tests a person. In fishing, it is important to overcome impatience," noted Kasymaliev.
The international tournament for sport fishing in the "feeder" discipline, titled "Opening of the Fishing Season 2026," took place on March 28-29 of this year, with 60 athletes from the national teams of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan participating.
The winners and prizewinners of the tournament were awarded special prizes.
