Professor Evgenia Lushikhina has passed away

On January 29, at the age of 87, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor Evgeniya Mikhailovna Lushikhina passed away, reports the press service of the National Academy of Sciences.

Evgeniya Mikhailovna was born on April 7, 1940.

After completing her postgraduate studies at the Institute of Experimental Biology of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR in 1969, she began her career as a laboratory assistant and then became a leading researcher and head of the laboratory.

Later, Lushikhina headed a laboratory at the Institute of Biology and Soil Science of the Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz SSR, and then led the laboratory of genetics and biotechnology at the Institute of Biotechnology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic until 2020.

Evgeniya was the daughter of the renowned academician Mikhail Lushikhin and continued his work by focusing on the creation of a new breed of Kyrgyz mountain merino.

The National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic noted that "she was the only woman in this profession."
