At the age of 86, literary scholar and honored cultural figure Omor Sooronov passed away

On January 21, after a prolonged illness, the outstanding cultural figure of Kyrgyzstan and literary scholar Omor Sooronov passed away at the age of 86, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Culture.

Omor Sooronov was not only a member of the Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan but also a poet, writer, literary scholar, and critic. He was awarded the Order of "Manas" III degree and became a laureate of the State Prize of the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of science and technology. He also held the position of honorary professor at the National University named after Jusup Balasagyn.

He was born on February 28, 1940, in the village of Gölögön, located in the Bazar-Korgon district. In 1958, Omor graduated from secondary school No. 1 in Bazar-Korgon, and then, in 1967, he graduated with honors from the philological faculty of Kyrgyz State University. After that, he was assigned to work as a teacher at the Jalal-Abad Pedagogical College named after A. S. Pushkin. In 1969, he began his career at the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan, where he initially became a junior researcher in the "Manas" sector and then worked in various positions in the manuscript department.

From 1979 to 1981, Omor Sooronov headed the editorial office of fiction at the "Kyrgyzstan" publishing house, and from 1992 to 1995, he worked as a senior lecturer at the Kyrgyz State Pedagogical University named after I. Arabayev and was a senior researcher at KNAU.

He received his first award for the poem "Alykul," which became an important milestone in his literary career. His publications began in 1957, and in 1971, his first poetry collection "Toolorumdun ziyaty" was published. In total, he created eight poetry collections, including "Eki togolok" (1993), aimed at children and adolescents.

In addition to poetry, Sooronov was actively engaged in literary criticism and literary studies. He made a significant contribution to the research and publication of forgotten works by Kyrgyz poets and writers, translating their works from Arabic and Latin scripts into modern Kyrgyz writing. Among his publications are manuscripts such as "Majmu at-tavarikh," "Sanat digarasttar," "Kazaldar," "Abak depteri," and many others.

He also studied "Manas" by Togolok Moldoo and wrote a monograph about its epic events. Among his works is the documentary story "Mukay," dedicated to the creativity of M. Elebaev.

Omor Sooronov became one of the leading authors of the two-volume "History of Kyrgyz Soviet Literature" (1987, 1990), the seven-volume "History of Kyrgyz Literature" (2004, 2005), and other significant works, such as the "Anthology of Pedagogical Thought of the Kyrgyz SSR," published in Moscow in 1988.

In total, he published more than four hundred articles on various topics, and his two-volume work "Word about Manuscripts" was released in 2009 by the "Turar" publishing house.

In 1995, in honor of the 60th anniversary of the Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan, he was awarded the title of "Honored Cultural Worker of the Kyrgyz Republic." In 2004, he became a laureate of the State Prize of the Kyrgyz Republic for achievements in literary studies. In 2017, he was awarded the Order of "Manas" III degree, as well as received many other awards, including the TURKSOY medal dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Toktogul Satylganov.
