In winter, in conditions of a cold climate and snow cover, a group of elderly enthusiasts from Kara-Balta consistently gathers for volleyball matches in the mountains at an altitude of 1200 meters above sea level.

For over ten years, these active tourists have been going on day hikes every week to the Almalu Gorge (Apple), located in the Jayyl district of the Chui region. The average age of the participants is over 70 years.

“We continue our hikes in any weather. The only thing that can stop us is heavy snowstorms. Last weekend, the conditions were excellent: sunny, fresh air, and soft snow created perfect conditions for active recreation. We had a great time playing volleyball in the forest, and on the way back, we slid down a snow hill. Such activities lift our spirits for the whole week,” said Olga Antonova.

Participants note that their outings are not aimed at setting records but serve to maintain physical activity, strengthen health, and socialize. Even in winter, they find time for outdoor recreation, and the route to the Almalu Gorge has become a good tradition for them.
