The use of soil from the surrounding hills is planned for filling the site
In Bishkek, in microdistrict 12, new residential complexes are planned to be built on the site of the existing quarry. This information comes from local residents who contacted the Vesti.kg editorial office.
To fill the quarry, it is proposed to use soil from nearby hills.
Concerns are growing among the population regarding the possible negative consequences of such urban planning and environmental decisions.
The quarry in microdistrict 12 of Bishkek (near Aaly Tokombaev Street) is a significant industrial facility that has been in operation since 1968 for the extraction of sand, gravel, and sand-gravel mixtures. In October 2023, an area of over 60 hectares was returned to state ownership, and the city administration intends to use it to improve road infrastructure.
The new Eastern bypass road (16–32 km) will run through the southern part of the quarry and help alleviate traffic at the entrance from the direction of Kant. The project includes a four-lane highway connecting the southern microdistricts (Zhukejeva-Pudovkina) with Kok-Zhar, Kara-Jyghach, and Novopokrovka, as well as an elevated bridge and five interchanges. Construction work is set to begin at the end of 2025.
Additionally, last year it became known about plans to demolish garages located in close proximity to the quarry.
