In the Jogorku Kenesh, an initiative aimed at attracting more citizens to military service is being discussed.
During a meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh that deals with international affairs, defense, security, and migration, a draft law is being considered that proposes increasing contributions for alternative service and expanding the mobilization reserve.
During the discussion, Deputy Medina Kairylbekova raised the issue of the multinational nature of Kyrgyzstan and inquired how many people not belonging to the titular nation serve in the army.
First Deputy Minister of Defense Talaybek Sharshiev reported that the ministry has the necessary data and recently conducted an analysis of the situation. He added that some of the information is confidential. He noted that the department is actively working to annually increase the number of citizens willing to serve.
In conclusion, Deputy Kairylbekova noted that at the moment she does not observe significant participation of representatives of other nationalities in military service.
