The upper chamber of the Russian parliament, the State Duma, has approved a bill that allows security services to block communications, having passed it in the second and third readings. This is reported by "Meduza".

Now the FSB has the right to block communications without the need for a security threat in any area or region. The new law states that communication operators are required to "suspend the provision of communication services upon receiving demands from the FSB in cases established by regulatory legal acts of the President of the Russian Federation".

Previously, in the version of the bill before the first reading, it was stated that communication services would be terminated based on a "request" from the FSB for the purpose of "protecting citizens and the state from emerging security threats". However, in the updated version, "request" has been replaced with "demand", and references to the government and security threats have been removed.
