Passengers will have to make several transfers
In Bishkek, a complete overhaul of bus routes is planned as part of the city hall's initiative to 'optimize' public transport. This was announced by Ulanbek Beyshenbaev, the director of the Department of Transport and Development of Road Transport Infrastructure.
According to him, the changes will affect all 72 existing routes. Some of them will be transformed into circular routes, which should improve transport accessibility and redistribute passenger flow. Other routes will be completely revised.
The official stated that these measures are aimed at increasing the efficiency of public transport operations.
Beyshenbaev also noted that residents will have to make several transfers to complete their journeys. In response to this, the authorities will implement a new system that will allow fare payment to be used within an hour on one or several routes.
It is worth noting that city hall employees, including the mayor, prefer personal vehicles, so ordinary city residents will become the main 'test subjects' in assessing the results of these reforms.
