The Supreme Court of the United States has declared part of the global tariffs imposed by the Trump administration illegal, reports BBC News.

According to the court's ruling, Trump overstepped his authority by imposing extensive tariffs, citing a law intended for emergencies within the country.

The court stated that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act "does not grant the president the authority to impose tariffs."
