At the National Surgical Center named after Mambet Mamakeev, the first liver transplant is scheduled to take place in March. This was announced during a meeting of the relevant committee of the Jogorku Kenesh by Deputy Minister of Health Bakytbek Kadyraliev.

He reported that all necessary preparations for the operation have been completed and the equipment has been installed. Russian specialists will participate in the surgery.

The Deputy Minister also answered questions from parliament members, pointing out the lack of accurate data on the number of patients in need of a liver transplant.

“At the moment, there is no clear registry. We are working on creating a unified database for liver and kidney transplants,” he added.

Kadyraliev noted that patients with hepatitis B and C could become potential candidates for the operation. Last year, there were 75 registered cases of hepatitis B, 56 cases of hepatitis C, and 9 cases of hepatitis D.

As of January 1, 2026, there have already been 578 liver transplant surgeries performed in Kyrgyzstan.

The first successful liver transplant in the country took place in June 2024, when a team of Kyrgyz and Turkish surgeons jointly performed the operation.
