The graph he published presents data from 1926, when regular measurements of the lake's level began.
“Since the beginning of observations, the water level has decreased by five meters (as of 1996), after which a slow rise has been observed. In the past, the water level was 100 meters lower than it is today, which occurred about five thousand years ago,” Abdrakhmatov noted.
In his opinion, the water level in Issyk-Kul will fluctuate around the average mark.

Earlier, Ulan Primov, a member of parliament, expressed concern about the state of Lake Issyk-Kul, calling it the jewel of the country.
He pointed out that the lake continues to shallow each year.
“According to media reports, while previously 80 rivers flowed into the lake, their number has now decreased to about 35. This situation raises serious concerns. Immediate measures must be taken to protect and preserve Lake Issyk-Kul, as well as to create a separate agency. Otherwise, Kyrgyzstan may face an ecological disaster in the future,” he emphasized.
