It was reported by the president of the National Academy of Sciences of Kyrgyzstan, Kanat Abdrakhmatov, through his social media that the project for the construction of the 'Altai' residential complex in Bishkek was not approved by the Institute of Seismology of the National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic.

He noted that the site planned for the construction of the complex is seismically active. His comments were prompted by a video that appeared online showing that the excavations for the future multi-story buildings were filled with water.

Kanat Abdrakhmatov, who also heads the Institute of Seismology, emphasized that the information about the high groundwater level in this area has been known for a long time. These conditions require the application of special engineering solutions to avoid ground subsidence and other potential hazards.

The expert also noted that a project of this scale did not receive approval from the Institute of Seismology, and the location of the residential complex poses a risk in terms of seismic activity, especially during strong earthquakes when hydraulic shocks may occur.

As an example, he cited the Kemin earthquake of 1911, when a fountain about eight meters high erupted from the ground at the epicenter, as well as the Sarykamish earthquake of 1970, during which a hydraulic shock damaged the foundation of a building factory in the Karakol River valley.
