During the negotiations that took place the day before, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the United States offered security guarantees for 15 years with the possibility of extension. However, he asked U.S. President Donald Trump to consider extending this term to 30–50 years. In response to journalists' questions, the Ukrainian leader shared this information in voice messages in his office's chat.

As Zelensky noted, preliminary agreements on security issues were reached at the team level and then approved at the meeting with Trump. "At the moment, this is not forever — the documents specify 15 years with the possibility of extension. I told him that we have been at war for almost 15 years, and we would like the guarantees to be more long-term," he emphasized, adding that Trump promised to "think" about his request.

Zelensky also reported that Trump discussed the peace plan "point by point" with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a recent phone call. According to him, this document includes 20 points. The American leader noted that Putin is ready for certain steps; however, Zelensky warned that this is "not the first time that Putin says one thing and does another." "It is important that words match actions," he added.

The President of Ukraine also noted that the U.S. is ready to support Ukraine in the event that Russia rejects the peace agreement and continues the conflict. According to him, the 20-point plan will be "confirmed" in a referendum.

On the evening before, Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky held negotiations at the American president's residence, Mar-a-Lago, in Florida. Following the meeting, the leaders announced that the peace plan was agreed upon by 90–95%, and the security guarantees were at 100%. However, the parties were unable to reach an agreement on the status of Donbas and other regions of Ukraine under Russian control.
