Recently, Donald Trump, the President of the United States, held a meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky, the head of Ukraine, at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. This discussion, which lasted about two hours, focused on issues related to the peaceful resolution of the conflict. It is worth noting that prior to this meeting, Trump also spoke on the phone with Vladimir Putin for an hour. Following the meeting, Trump emphasized that the conversation was "great" and that they "made significant progress." He noted that they are getting closer to reaching an agreement between Russia and Ukraine, which is an important step forward.
Zelensky, for his part, confirmed that security guarantees between Ukraine and the U.S. have been fully agreed upon, and that an agreement between the U.S., Ukraine, and Europe is nearly reached.
Trump added that the situation around Donbas is "approaching resolution," although this issue remains complex. "The question is not resolved, but we have made significant progress," he noted in response to a journalist's inquiry.
Speaking about territorial issues, Trump pointed out that this is among the most difficult tasks. "Some territories are already under control, for some, there may still be a struggle, but they can be taken in the coming months. Isn't it better to make a deal now?" he continued.
The U.S. President expressed the opinion that peace in Ukraine could be achieved within a few weeks if favorable conditions are created, although failure is also possible.
Trump also mentioned that he discussed the status of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in his conversation with Putin, who is "working with Ukraine to open it."
According to him, Russia has expressed its intention to help in the reconstruction of Ukraine. "Russia is interested in Ukraine's success," Trump added, mentioning Putin's readiness to "supply electricity at low prices."
Thus, the issues regarding territorial resolution remain open, and the situation in Donbas continues to be a key point. New contacts with Kyiv are expected in the coming weeks, and the next meeting with Zelensky is scheduled for December 29.
