In his opinion, inaction could lead to an ecological disaster in the country
At a parliamentary meeting, Ulan Primov pointed out that the water level in Lake Issyk-Kul continues to decline, and the shoreline is gradually retreating.
The deputy emphasized that if adequate measures are not taken to protect the lake, Kyrgyzstan may face serious ecological problems.
“This issue has been discussed in meetings with the government before. The main reason is that a large portion of water resources is used by farmers for irrigation. As a result, a significant amount of water does not reach the lake, threatening its volume,” he noted.
Primov also added that previously about 80 rivers flowed into the lake, but this number has now decreased to 30.
As a solution to the problem, the deputy proposed the creation of a special agency that would focus exclusively on the protection of the lake, interact with international donors, attract funding, and conduct educational activities for the population.
