The restoration of the Aral Sea ecosystem continues, and on February 25, a new phase of saxaul planting began on the dried seabed of the Aral Sea. This year, young volunteers joined the team of ecologists and UNDP staff, reports Podrobno.uz.

Planting saxaul is an important step in the long-term restoration of the nature of the Aral Sea region. Each plant creates a natural barrier against salt-dust storms, which significantly helps stabilize the soil and prevents further desertification, enhancing the ecological resilience of the region.

This time, the trip to the region was complemented by the educational program Aral School. Young activists had the opportunity to see firsthand the scale of the climate crisis by working in areas that were underwater just a few decades ago.

The goal of such events is not just to plant a certain number of seedlings, but also to ensure sustainable soil stabilization. Experts believe that only systematic and long-term planting of the seabed can stabilize the ecological situation and increase the region's resilience to dust storms.
