What does the Ministry of Agriculture say about the price increase?
The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry noted that the increase in prices was influenced by demand in Kazakhstan and Russia, where wholesale and retail prices for eggs are also rising.

"The wholesale price of eggs has increased from 10 to 12 soms per unit. However, there is a positive aspect for producers. Last year, prices were very low, and many entrepreneurs were on the brink of bankruptcy. Now this increase will help farmers recover," the ministry added.
According to official data, Kyrgyzstan is almost completely self-sufficient in chicken egg production, providing for itself at 80%.
Opinions of Poultry Farmers
The editorial team of Kaktus.media conducted interviews with local poultry farmers, who highlighted several reasons for the rise in egg prices. The first reason is the rising cost of feed, which comes from Kazakhstan. The government exempts feed from VAT to support poultry farmers, but even with this assistance, costs remain high.

Secondly, the situation is exacerbated by outbreaks of avian influenza. Cases of the disease have been reported in Russia, Kazakhstan, and other countries, leading to the need for culling bird populations.
"As a result, there is a global shortage, and demand for eggs has sharply increased. Even in Japan, one of the most developed countries, similar problems are being observed," the poultry farmers explained.

According to them, last year Kazakhstan actively purchased eggs from Kyrgyzstan, and now exports are mainly directed there.
Nevertheless, domestic producers must prioritize supplying the domestic market - supermarkets and regions of the country. The third reason is that there has been an increase in egg consumption over the past two years. People have become more health-conscious and are cooking eggs more often for breakfast, which increases demand within the country.
"Overall, the rise in prices is linked to global trends, increased feed costs, and rising demand," the poultry farmers concluded.

Poultry farmers concluded that to normalize the market situation, dialogue is needed between the Ministry of Water Resources and antimonopoly authorities. It is important to determine whether there is a decline in production or if the problem lies in other factors, and based on that, take measures.
