The hero of the new chapter of the "Our People Abroad" section is Askarbay Kushtarbek uulu, originally from the Kara-Kuldzhinsky district of the Osh region, who now lives in Los Angeles, California, USA.

He obtained a green card in 2023 and moved to America with his family the following year.

“I am currently 30 years old. I am studying part-time at the Bubusary Beyshenaliev University of Culture and Arts, majoring in 'socio-cultural activities.' This spring semester, I plan to pass my winter and summer sessions and complete my studies. Previously, I worked as a toastmaster, singer, and event host. I have a family: a wife, a son, and two daughters. In 2023, I won a green card and now live in the USA. My job is related to food delivery through two popular platforms. The advantage of this position is a flexible schedule that allows me to plan my working hours independently. The more you work, the higher your income. My wife is studying online,” Askarbay shared.

He shared his observations about life in the USA and how it differs from and resembles life in Kyrgyzstan:

“In Los Angeles, it is warm almost all year round; there is no winter here. Americans live at a fast pace, and everyone values their time. There is a rule here: those who work hard live well. Unfortunately, there are no weddings and feasts like in Kyrgyzstan, but family values, kindness, and humanity remain common traits,” noted Kushtarbek uulu.

At first, it was not easy for him, as he did not speak English. However, being in the USA, he immersed himself in the language daily through communication and listening, and after a year, he was able to speak fluently.

“The most serious difficulty at the beginning was the language and adapting to a new environment. Sometimes I felt lonely and missed home. But I also gained many joyful moments: new acquaintances, interesting people, and trips with my children to the ocean. Sometimes, when I lack words, I speak in Kyrgyz, but overall I understand and can maintain a conversation. My level of English now allows me to communicate on everyday topics,” Askarbay added.

He also emphasized that he was impressed by the respectful attitude towards work and the strict adherence to laws in the country.

“Everything in this country is systematized. Everyone's labor is valued. The wide and safe roads and the picturesque nature attract attention. In the future, I strive to raise my children to be decent people, develop in my profession, and promote Kyrgyz culture abroad. Ultimately, I hope to return to Kyrgyzstan, work with the youth, and share my experience,” concluded A. Kushtarbek uulu.
