Today in Los Angeles, court hearings begin in which TikTok, YouTube, and Meta are accused of causing harm to the mental health of minors. The plaintiffs are a 19-year-old girl from California and her mother, Karen Glenn, who claim that social media intentionally creates addictive mechanisms, leading to a deterioration in the plaintiffs' mental state, including suicidal thoughts and self-harm.

According to court documents, the girl began using social media at the age of ten, despite her mother's efforts to limit access to these platforms through software. The lawsuit states that "the defendants design their apps in such a way that children can bypass parental restrictions."

The documents emphasize that the "addiction-inducing design" of Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat, along with frequent notifications from these services, contributed to the formation of addiction in the plaintiffs, coinciding with a decline in her mental health.

The plaintiffs are seeking monetary compensation from the companies, the amount of which will be determined by the court. High-profile employees of these internet companies are expected to testify in court. Many experts believe that the outcome of this legal proceeding could have a significant impact, as accusations against popular video services have been voiced for a long time, which have successfully avoided serious consequences.
