Despite the active discussion of his candidacy, Marlen Mamataliev himself previously emphasized that he does not aspire to take the position of chairman of the parliament, stating that such matters should be resolved collectively within the Jogorku Kenesh.
Marlen Mamataliev is a well-known public and political figure who is currently a deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh, as well as the leader of the "Yntymak" party and a member of the committee on budget, economic, and fiscal policy.
He has represented the interests of his constituents in parliament for three consecutive terms. In the last elections, held in single-mandate electoral district No. 22 (Pervomaisky district of Bishkek), Marlen took second place in the number of votes and was elected as a deputy of the VIII convocation.
It is expected that a decision on the new speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh will be made after the current parliamentary session concludes.
