Marlen Mamataliyev has become a candidate for the position of speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, with his nomination initiated by the parliamentary groups "Eldik" and "Ala-Too" during a parliamentary session held on February 12.
The need for a new speaker arose after Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu resigned, although he will continue to work in parliament, retaining his mandate.
Mamataliyev's nomination was supported by two groups of deputies that are part of the Jogorku Kenesh and form the parliamentary majority.
The "Eldik" group includes 18 deputies, among them Akylbek Tumonbaev, Gulya Kozhokulova, Ulan Primov, Uluqbek Karybek uulu, and others. In turn, "Ala-Too" consists of 15 parliamentarians, including Janara Akayeva, Seidbek Atambaev, Talaybek Masabirov, and Jumabek Salymbekov.
