At a recent parliamentary meeting, member of the Jogorku Kenesh Gulya Kozhokulova proposed to exempt bus drivers from the obligation to accept cash for fares. She believes that drivers should focus on operating the vehicle and ensuring passenger safety.
In her opinion, to achieve this goal, the driver's workplace should be protected by a glass partition.
Kozhokulova also emphasized that the need to accept payments leads to buses functioning like route taxis, which, in turn, negatively affects safety and adherence to schedules.
Furthermore, the deputy noted that the issue of banning cash payments on buses had been raised previously by local councils, but it has not yet been resolved.
