Citizens of some countries may face criminal consequences for mercenarism


Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russian Federation, signed a decree that prohibits the extradition of foreign citizens if they have served under contract in the Armed Forces of Russia and participated in combat operations. This bill has been published on the official legal acts portal.

This initiative was proposed by the government and submitted for consideration to the State Duma. The changes concern Article 464 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation.

It should be noted that citizens from countries where their compatriots serve in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation may face criminal prosecution under articles related to mercenarism or similar offenses.
