At least 13 people have died as a result of the collapse of a gold mining mine in Sudan.

According to information provided by the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company, the incident occurred in South Kordofan state, located in the southern part of the country.

In its official Facebook account, the company reported that the collapse happened in the area of the "Um-Fakrun" mine, where five abandoned mine shafts collapsed near the settlement of Abu Jubaiha.

Several people are still considered missing.

According to available information, a group of miners illegally entered the closed area to engage in unregulated mining activities. They damaged the supporting structures of the mines, which led to the collapse.
