Currently, the Internal Affairs Department of the Lenin District is investigating a criminal case in which the pensioner is the victim.
According to reports, the woman, who previously worked in the education sector, received a message from an unfamiliar number. The caller introduced himself as an old acquaintance and accused her of having suspicious transactions occurring from her bank accounts, allegedly financing terrorists in Syria. He said that she would soon receive a call from the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) to resolve the issue.
For a week, the pensioner received calls not only from representatives of the GKNB but also from the National Bank. All these calls were from scammers, but the woman was unaware of this. Under their influence, she decided to sell her apartment and went to one of the shopping centers in the capital to transfer money to the scammers' account.
After leaving her house, she forgot her phone, took a taxi, and arrived at the shopping center. Not knowing what to do, the pensioner saw the GKNB building and decided to seek help there. After asking questions in the reception about the person who had called her, the GKNB staff suspected fraud and advised her to stop communicating with unfamiliar numbers and to contact the police.
Thus, a moment of forgetfulness helped the woman avoid losing money.
