The former head of the 27th colony in Kyrgyzstan is under suspicion of receiving a large bribe in foreign currency
In the country, a scandal is escalating related to corruption in the penitentiary system. On February 23, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs provided information about the detention of the former head of correctional facility No. 27.
This incident began in December 2025, when a 57-year-old man, seeking to free a relative from imprisonment, handed over $30,000 to the head of the colony. These funds were intended for a "positive resolution" of the issue regarding the conditional early release of a convict for fraud.
Based on this statement, a criminal case was initiated in accordance with Article 342 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Security services detained the alleged bribe recipient — 40-year-old T.M. He is currently in a temporary detention facility. Law enforcement agencies will need to determine whether this case is an isolated incident or if there was a persistent scheme of "trading freedom" within the institution.
