In India, videos illustrating the phenomenon of "cow vigilantism," which refers to mob justice related to the protection of cows considered sacred in Hinduism, are rapidly gaining popularity.

This phenomenon is associated with the actions of activists who patrol roads, trying to stop or cause accidents with trucks. These vehicles are suspected of transporting cows, including for the purpose of slaughter. Sometimes such actions lead to the overturning of vehicles.

According to information provided by Indian media, such incidents are often accompanied by violence.

It has been reported that in January 2026 alone, at least 85 people died as a result of attacks related to "cow vigilantism."

Victims of such attacks are most often truck drivers and members of religious minorities.

Human rights activists have repeatedly emphasized that such actions go beyond the law and bear the hallmarks of lynching. They urge authorities to take stricter measures to combat mob justice.
