The representative of Kyrgyzstan reached the final in the weight category up to 77 kg, but lost to Hungarian athlete Tamas Lorincz, taking second place.
“In the final, I couldn’t demonstrate even 10% of my potential. I can’t understand how it happened. The Olympic Games are always something amazing,” noted the wrestler.
“For my opponent, this match was the last in his career, while for me, everything was just beginning. He was the reigning world and European champion and ended his career with the title of Olympic champion. This is great happiness and the dream of any athlete,” he added.
“Sometimes I feel sad about losing back then. But at the same time, I am sincerely happy for athletes like him who were able to end their careers on such a high note. Not everyone gets to leave sports like that,” Akjol Makhmudov noted in a conversation with journalist Tahir Gafurov.
