David Gribkov-Tezikbaev, a 12-year-old resident of Karakol, actively combines his passions for music and sports.

He studies at school No. 2 named after Baisara uulu Kydyr ake and simultaneously attends a children's art school for guitar lessons. Music has always been a part of his life: his father, a self-taught musician, often played melodies at home, and his mother, noticing her son's interest, enrolled him in a music school. At the age of nine, David received his first guitar as a gift, which has since become his constant companion.

“I play the classical guitar. I haven't tried the electric guitar yet, but I hope to have the opportunity to do so,” David shared.

Learning music requires significant effort. Every day, he dedicates about an hour to practicing the guitar, while the remaining time is divided between school assignments, judo training, and household chores. His teacher, Sergey Balakirev, selects a variety of pieces for him—from classical to contemporary Kyrgyz composers.

In the spring of 2024, David made his debut at the "Obon" competition in Bishkek, where he took third place. “I was very nervous, but that day became special for me,” he recalled.

In April 2025, he already won first place at the prestigious Delphic Games in Bishkek. “There were many participants, and I was very anxious. But the support of my parents, friends, and teacher helped me cope. I was incredibly happy,” the young musician said.

David has also been practicing judo since he was six years old. Sports develop his character, help him overcome anxiety before performances, and teach him perseverance. “Sometimes it’s difficult, and not everything works out the first time, but I keep trying. The main thing is not to give up,” David shares his experience.

The path of a musician is not always easy. He recalls how, before one of his concerts, he broke his nails on his right hand, which became a serious problem for a guitarist.

“You need strong nails to play the guitar. One time, they broke right before I went on stage. People who don’t play the guitar might not notice such nuances, but for me, it was a real challenge,” David explained.

Despite the difficulties, the joy of music always prevails. He loves performing various pieces and is particularly fond of Mozart: “I love him as a composer and as a person with an amazing biography, even though he wasn't a guitarist.”

In addition to music and sports, David enjoys skiing, biking with his father, reading, playing chess, and playing the accordion.

His mother believes that David's love for music developed naturally. “Every child is drawn to instruments, and David is no exception. For me, any victory of his, even the smallest, is already a great achievement. When he overcomes his fear and steps onto the stage, he is already a winner,” said Evgenia Gribkova-Tezikbaeva.

She also noted the important role of teachers in shaping her son's personality.

“I want to tell all aspiring guitarists: don’t stop, even if it’s hard. I also don’t always succeed the first time, but I try and keep going,” David concluded.
