From January 24 to 25, a judo championship for men and women took place in Kyrgyzstan, marking an important stage in the national team's preparation for the international competitions in 2026.

This annual tournament, held at the beginning of the year, allows for the identification of the best athletes who will represent the country in competitions, including championships and Cups of Asia, world championships, as well as Grand Prix stages and Grand Slam tournaments.

This year, the championship was held for the first time in the city of Osh, where athletes competed for 14 sets of medals. Special attention should be given to the weight category up to 73 kg.

In this category, 27 participants registered, and the champion was Nurmukhammed Bakirdinov. An interesting fact is that the second place was taken by Islam Bayalinov, the head coach of the women's national team of Kyrgyzstan. More than ten years ago, he ended his sports career, but last year he decided to return to the tatami.

In 2025, he already participated in the weight category up to 73 kg and won a bronze medal. This year, celebrating his 40th birthday on January 31, Bayalinov achieved three victories and reached the final, earning silver.

After finishing his active career, Bayalinov coached the youth national team of Kyrgyzstan and participated in competitions among veterans. In 2023, he became the world champion among veterans in judo, and in 2025, he won a gold medal at the veteran world championship in sambo.

Throughout his career, Islam Bayalinov has several times become the champion of Kyrgyzstan in the weight category up to 66 kg.
