In 2025, more than 190 citizens of Uzbekistan applied for asylum in Russia

In total, in 2025, 8,820 foreign citizens applied for protection in Russia. Uzbekistan ranked fifth among the countries with the highest number of applications, surpassed only by Ukraine, Syria, Palestine, and Afghanistan. Among the ten countries with the most applications were also Germany, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Israel, and Armenia.

For comparison, in 2024, the total number of asylum seekers in Russia was 6,879, indicating a significant increase in 2025. The rise in applications is linked to changes in the structure of migration flows: while in 2024, the majority of applicants were citizens of Ukraine (over 3,700), this year the geography of applications has significantly expanded.
