According to the NSO, at least 11 out of 21 provinces in Mongolia are affected by dzuud.
The term "dzuud" in Mongolia is used to describe a severe winter when a large number of domestic animals die from freezing or being buried in snow.
Animal husbandry plays a key role in the economy of Mongolia, providing livelihoods for nearly 40% of the country's nomadic population.
However, harsh winter conditions annually lead to significant losses among Mongolia's nomadic herders.
According to the NSO, at the end of 2025, there were 58.1 million livestock registered in Mongolia.
