In Geneva, at the Omani consulate, the second round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States regarding the Iranian nuclear program has begun. This became known on February 17, when the Iranian television channel Press TV reported the start of the meetings.

This time, the focus will be exclusively on the aspects of the nuclear issue, as well as discussions related to the lifting of American sanctions against Iran.

Esmaeil Baghaei, a representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, told reporters before the negotiations began: “It is clear that the discussions will focus on the nuclear issue.”
The format of the dialogue mirrors that used on February 6 in Muscat, where the Iranian and American delegations exchanged messages through Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi and agreed to continue negotiations.

The American delegation is headed by the special envoy of the U.S. President, Steve Witkoff, while the Iranian delegation is led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

On the eve of the start of the round of meetings, Araghchi held talks with the Director General of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, regarding issues related to the Iranian nuclear program, and also discussed upcoming contacts with Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi.
