The message about the veteran's death was disseminated by the district Council of War and Labor Veterans through the Asia-Plus agency. According to their information, in the last days of his life, Kodirov was receiving home treatment due to illness.

Aziz Kodirov was born in 1922 in Shahrituz. In 1939, while working as a teacher, he went to the front, where he sustained several injuries. In 1943, he returned home and continued his career in education.

Now, after Kodirov's passing, there are only 12 living participants of the Great Patriotic War left in Tajikistan.

In 2005, there were 9,900 World War II veterans in the country, but by 2020, their number had decreased to 168. In 2021, there were 98 veterans left, in 2022 — 59, in 2023 — 42, and in 2024 it is expected that there will be only 24.
