Ministry of Industry of Mongolia: the country meets all its needs for petroleum products through imports from the Russian Federation and China

Imports from Russia account for 95% of the total volume, while the remaining 5% comes from China. As of January 7, 2026, 65,029 tons of fuel were imported through five border crossings. Importers have confirmed their requests to purchase 287,860 tons of petroleum products, including 136,470 tons of AI-92 gasoline, 148,090 tons of diesel fuel, and 3,300 tons of AI-95 gasoline.

At a meeting with fuel distributors and importers, the ministry recommended not to increase the price of AI-92 gasoline and to ensure regular supplies from Russia. The parties also agreed to create a unified electronic system for accounting stocks and supplies of petroleum products, which will help reduce current costs.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bégzsürengiin Enkhtuvsin previously noted that there were concerns among citizens on social media regarding a possible fuel shortage similar to that observed at the end of 2025. He assured that the volumes of supplies from Russia remain stable. This was confirmed during Vladimir Putin's visit to Ulaanbaatar in 2024, where both sides agreed on issues of supply stability.

Enkhtuvsin also emphasized Russia's readiness to support Mongolia in fuel supply matters and noted that the Russian Federation traditionally provides the country with necessary energy resources. The agreement between Russia and Mongolia stipulates annual supplies of 1.8-1.9 million tons of petroleum products and 60,000 tons of aviation kerosene on mutually beneficial terms.
