The forecast for January 2026 regarding drought was prepared by the Institute of Hydrometeorology, Environmental Research, and Information, based on ground observations and satellite data. The forecast includes information on drought, summer drought, winter-spring pasture capacity for 2025-2026, pasture yield, air temperature, deviations of precipitation from average values, snow depth, as well as expected temperatures and precipitation in January.
According to the forecast, livestock wintering will be extremely difficult in 3% of the territory, difficult in 17%, moderate in 38%, slightly difficult in 26%, and not difficult in 16%. The most problems are expected in the regions of the aimags of Bayan-Ölgii, Uvs, Khovd, Töv, Selenge, Darkhan-Uul, as well as in certain areas of the aimags of Övörkhangai, Bayankhongor, and Dundgovi.
In this regard, it is important to pay close attention to those regions where livestock wintering may be complicated. It is recommended to regularly plan response measures based on short-term, medium-term, and long-term weather forecasts provided by meteorological services, as well as updated drought forecasts.
