As a result of the storm, people died for various reasons, including accidents, hypothermia, and collisions with snow removal equipment, as well as due to the overall consequences of extreme weather conditions. Among the deceased were at least six people whose bodies were found, but the causes of their deaths remain unknown.
Among the victims were also seven who died in a business jet crash in the state of Maine in the northeastern USA, which was also affected by the snowstorm. The plane crashed during takeoff, and the only survivor was a crew member who was hospitalized with serious injuries. The causes of the crash have not yet been determined.
Snowfalls that began on January 23 continued throughout the weekend, reaching snowdrift heights of 30 centimeters. The situation was exacerbated by Arctic frosts and ice, leading to damage to power lines and leaving more than a million homes and businesses without electricity.
