The footage published by several sources shows military equipment being loaded onto a Russian aircraft at the Kamyshly airport
According to information from Reuters, Russia has begun withdrawing its troops from the Kamyshly airport, located in northeastern Syria in areas previously controlled by the Kurds. The withdrawal operation started last week, and it is expected that some soldiers will be transferred to the Russian airbase in Khmeimim, while others will return home.

In the last two days, military equipment and heavy weaponry have been sent from Kamyshly to Khmeimim, according to sources from the Syrian security service. Additionally, on January 26, a Reuters journalist observed that Russian flags were still flying at the airport, and two aircraft with Russian markings were on the runway.

The publication "Al-Monitor" also presented a video shot by a correspondent, which captured items left behind during the troop withdrawal, as well as Russian flags waving above the communication tower at the airport.

Kamyshly is one of three Russian bases in Syria. Russia deployed its forces here in 2019 and maintained them, even increasing the number of troops in the summer of 2025 after a change of power in the country. According to the newspaper "Kommersant," Syrian authorities, as of January 21, made the decision to withdraw Russian military personnel from the airport when the Kurds are pushed out of the area, as a source stated, "There is no reason for Russian military personnel to be there."
