On Wednesday, the Central District Court of Seoul announced the verdict for the wife of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, Kim Gon Hee, finding her guilty of corruption, as reported by RIA Novosti.
The session during which the verdict was announced took place on January 28 at 14:10 local time (8:10 Moscow time) and was broadcast live. This marked the first instance of a first-instance court decision regarding a former first lady being shown live.
Kim Gon Hee, the wife of Yoon Suk Yeol, who attempted to impose martial law in the country on December 3, 2024, was accused of a number of crimes. She was suspected of manipulating the securities of the car dealer Deutsch Motors, as well as receiving expensive gifts from the "Unification Church" in exchange for business services and of manipulating public opinion polls during elections.
Special Prosecutor Min Jung Ki requested a 15-year prison sentence for the former first lady in December 2025 as punishment.
