During the final hearing at the Central District Court of Seoul, the prosecution named Yoon Suk Yeol as the leader of a rebellion who attempted to maintain power by taking control of the judicial and legislative branches. The former president categorically denies the charges against him. A verdict is expected to be delivered in February.

As noted by Reuters, death sentences have not been carried out in South Korea for several decades.

Recall that in early December 2024, Yoon Suk Yeol declared a state of emergency, justifying it by the need to combat "pro-North Korean anti-state forces." However, this state lasted only a few hours before it was revoked by parliament. Soon after, the president was impeached, and Yoon Suk Yeol was removed from office and arrested.
