At a press conference held by the representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, it was stated that the actions of the United States regarding Venezuela undermine the stability of international relations. This was reported by the "Xinhua" agency.

Mao Ning emphasized that Washington, ignoring Nicolás Maduro's status as president, initiated legal proceedings and conducted a "so-called trial" in an American court. In her opinion, these actions represent a serious violation of Venezuela's sovereignty and undermine the stability of international relations.

The Chinese foreign ministry representative also added that no country has the right to place its rules above the norms of international law. In this regard, China calls on the U.S. to immediately release Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, as well as to ensure their safety.

The day before, the first court session in the case of the Venezuelan president concluded in New York. Maduro could be sentenced to four life terms on charges related to conspiracy involving drugs, cocaine trafficking, possession of firearms and explosives, as well as conspiracy to use these means against the U.S.

During the session, Maduro stated that he "still remains the president of Venezuela" and rejected all accusations. His wife also declared her innocence. The judge communicated with them through a translator, while they used headphones for simultaneous translation.

The court ruled that Maduro must appear at the next hearing on March 17 and allowed the presence of consular officials. The politician's defenders expressed their intention to seek his release on bail.
