Delcy Rodriguez, who previously served as vice president under Nicolas Maduro, took the oath before the National Assembly. This was reported by DW.

The ceremony was conducted by Jorge Rodriguez, the speaker of parliament and Delcy's brother. "I come with regret for the suffering that our people have had to endure as a result of the illegal military aggression against our country. I come, regretting the abduction of our two heroes," Associated Press quotes her as saying, referring to both Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, who were captured.

The oath took place just two days after Rodriguez was appointed to the position by the Supreme Court. In her first statement in her new role, she emphasized that Caracas would strive for "balanced and respectful international relations," including with the United States.

U.S. President Donald Trump, commenting on Rodriguez's appointment, noted that she would "pay the price" for her lack of cooperation with American authorities, and this could turn out to be a greater cost for her than for Maduro, as reported by The Atlantic.

Additionally, on January 4, Bloomberg, citing its sources, reported that Secretary of State Marco Rubio would take on an administrative role in managing Venezuela after the overthrow of Maduro.

On January 3, Nicolas Maduro and his wife were captured by U.S. special forces "Delta" as part of Operation "Absolute Resolve" and were taken out of Venezuela first to a U.S. Navy base in Guantanamo, and then to New York, where the first court hearing involving them took place on January 5.
