On the night of Saturday, January 3, Caracas, the capital of Venezuela, became the site of a series of explosions, according to reports from the Associated Press and Reuters.

According to media reports, low-flying aircraft were spotted in the sky over the city, and a power outage occurred in the southern part of Caracas, near a major military base. Estimates from the Associated Press indicate that at least seven explosions were recorded. So far, there have been no official comments from the Venezuelan authorities.

A local source contacted CNN reporters, stating that the first explosion occurred around 1:50 AM local time (11:50 AM in Bishkek). "One of the explosions was so powerful that the windows shook," reported correspondent Osmarri Hernandez.

Jennifer Jacobs from CBS News, citing American officials, reported that U.S. President Donald Trump had given the order for strikes on targets in Venezuela, including military facilities; however, there has been no official confirmation of this information from the Pentagon or the White House.

In response to the events, Venezuela accused the U.S. of military aggression. The country's Foreign Minister, Ivan Gil, stated that "the aim of this attack is to seize strategic resources such as oil and minerals, as well as to attempt to destroy Venezuela's political independence. They will not succeed."

A state of emergency has been declared in the country.

Previously, Donald Trump had repeatedly expressed the possibility of conducting a military operation in Venezuela to pressure the regime of Nicolás Maduro and achieve his resignation.
