According to Reuters, in 2025, U.S. contributions to UN humanitarian programs amounted to $3.38 billion. This is significantly lower compared to $14.1 billion allocated in 2024 and $17.2 billion in 2022.

At the beginning of December this year, the UN was forced to cut the budget of its humanitarian programs to a record low level for the past ten years. This was mainly due to a decrease in donor contributions, primarily from the U.S. Despite the reduction, the United States remains the largest donor to the UN, although its share of total humanitarian aid has decreased to about 15%, down from around one-third previously.

For 2026, a total budget of $23 billion is planned for UN humanitarian programs, which is almost half of the requested $47 billion for 2025.
