As reported by The New York Times, American intelligence had an informant within the Venezuelan government who had been monitoring the president for several days prior to his arrest. Additionally, continuous surveillance of Maduro was provided by stealth drones.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi previously stated that Maduro and his wife are charged with conspiracy to commit "narcoterrorism," as well as smuggling cocaine into the U.S. and possessing firearms and explosives intended for use against the United States. These charges were filed in federal court in the Southern District of New York.
According to reports from ABC News, Maduro is currently being transported to New York; however, information about his current whereabouts has not been officially confirmed.
Earlier, Venezuelan authorities stated that they had no information about the whereabouts of the president and his wife and demanded that the U.S. provide evidence of their lives.
