“Irena Stefanovna Lesnevskaya has left us. This name has become synonymous with the REN channel that she created. My colleagues and I from the program 'Week' owe her a lot. She did a great deal for all of Russian television,” Maximovskaya wrote on her Facebook page.

Irena Lesnevskaya was born on May 30, 1942, in the village of Urlyutyu, located in the Pavlodar region of present-day Kazakhstan. In 1945, she moved to Moscow with her mother and brother. After leaving Ren TV, she acquired the magazine "Novoe Vremya," which later became known as The New Times. Irena was the publisher of this publication and served as editor-in-chief for two years. In 2013, she handed over the magazine to Yevgenia Albats.

Additionally, in 2010, Irena Lesnevskaya was awarded the French Order of the Legion of Honor.
