This UAV has a wingspan of 25 meters and a maximum takeoff weight of 16 tons, while it is capable of carrying up to six tons of payload. "Jiutian" can launch over 100 drones or small-sized missiles. Its flight range is up to 7,000 kilometers, and its maximum flight altitude is 15,000 meters.
Thanks to its modular design and the ability to quickly replace containers with various equipment, "Jiutian" will be used not only in military operations. Its potential applications include cargo transportation and logistics in hard-to-reach areas, restoring communication and delivering rescue equipment in emergencies, as well as mapping and geological exploration.
"Jiutian" was first presented at the Airshow China in Zhuhai in 2024, attracting media attention with its military capabilities. The drone was developed by the state aerospace and defense corporation AVIC.
Chinese authorities recognize the development of heavy and autonomous aviation platforms as one of the key directions for modernization in both the military and civilian sectors. Although the timeline for the "Jiutian" to enter service has not yet been announced, the first flight was described by state media as a "breakthrough" in the creation of new large UAVs.
