The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on December 26 the imposition of sanctions against 10 individuals and 20 defense companies from the United States. These measures were taken in response to the sale of weapons to Taiwan, reports DW.

The sanctions, which took effect the same day, target companies whose supplies, Beijing claims, "undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the People's Republic of China." Among the companies sanctioned are the defense contractor Northrop Grumman and Boeing's St. Louis branch in Missouri. The individuals added to the list hold high positions in the specified companies, the Chinese ministry clarifies.
