Delcy Rodriguez has taken the position of acting president of Venezuela after the Supreme Court of the country approved this appointment on January 3 in connection with the capture of Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores during a U.S. military operation. "We demand the immediate release of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, the only president of Venezuela," Rodriguez noted in a television and radio address.
The 56-year-old Rodriguez has served as vice president since June 2018, and since August 2024, she has also held the position of Minister of Hydrocarbons. Previously, she held various ministerial posts, including Minister of Economy, Finance and Foreign Trade, as well as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chair of the National Constituent Assembly.
